Residential Holiday Home, New Zealand
I came to work with Mark and the team at BBC Commercial during the build of our holiday home.
As this was a new build, we required joinery for the whole house, but I also had some pretty specific ideas about the furniture I wanted. I’m a commercial architect, so I had a design in mind for a whole range of inbuilt custom furniture – the kitchen, dining table, wardrobes and a sofa bed.
I knew Mark was a creative mind and it would be easy to run a design process with him, essentially two designers with different expertise. Mark’s skillset and practical approach meant he could bring my plans to life and make them a reality. He worked with me on the designs, finding ways to practically implement my plans, and never tried to talk me out of doing something just because it was a little tricky. It was a real team effort.
It wasn’t an easy job by any means, and because it was built-in furniture, the edges, thicknesses and little details needed to be perfect to ensure all the pieces fitted together. Logistically, delivering the job wasn’t an easy feat either – as our property is on an island, the job had to go from Tauranga to Auckland and then from the truck to the barge, and then onto the property. But Mark and the team handled it all perfectly, I think this came down to some excellent pre-planning – they managed the complexities of this job so well.
Mark was brilliant to work with, we both could understand each other’s technical backgrounds, there was great communication all throughout the project and we worked really well as a team. The whole team at BBC Commercial did such a thorough job, all the little details were right and it all happened on time. I’d definitely recommend them, on a commercial scale as well. Their workmanship and work ethic was excellent, and it was nice not to have to pay overpriced Auckland rates.
